Z71 crashed into my father-in-law’s house

So it’s just before 3am this morning.  The phone rings.  NO ONE has this number but family.  At 3am, it’s an emergency.  It’s my wife’s mother, everyone is fine she says, but a truck ran into their house.  We have a recent event of this nature with their home (about 15 months ago) and were expecting to find their front yard torn up and perhaps some brick knocked off the house.  When we got there, it wasn’t the main road that the truck had been using, but the extremely short (.5 miles) circle road of the neighborhood just behind my in-law’s home.

It’s mostly a curve.  You don’t do more than 25 mph on this road, for god’s sake, there aren’t even yellow divider lines.  Somehow, this guy gets up fast enough to jump 25-30 feet off the road, through my in-law’s fence, into their back yard, not hit the breaks (no skid marks on the pavement and no torn up grass in the yard) and slam into my father-in-law’s bedroom.  He (my father-in-law) was asleep, woken up by a truck slamming into his bed, through the wall and knocking the wall on top of him and throwing his bed across the room.

I spent the morning with my in-law’s and wife, helping with the cleanup once the insurance agent arrived and putting up a temporary wall that will hold the weather out until proper repairs can be done.

I won’t say any more, as there are charges pending (doh!), but I do have a couple of choice pics I posted to show just how bad this was:

Photos In!

Our photos are here!  Lisa and I took Jax and Pete to Atlanta a few weeks ago to get pictures made by the famous Amanda Jones.  The shoot was fabulous and we got the proofs back today.  Wow!  We are allowed to post the proofs as we see fit since they are low resolution (yes, we will definitely be buying several pics), so I should have some of our favorites up on flickr tomorrow.  The last several will, of course, be viewable from the flickr plugin on this page as well:).

Updated site!

I decided to split fragfest.net from the Alleg podcast and give the podcast it’s own home, now that I’m actually trying to get it underway.  Visit it at http://allegiance.fragfest.net!  We should be available on iTunes in a day or two, look for us!

FACEBOOK – So, wassup?

I’m amazed at how many people keep finding me on Facebook.  In all honesty, most of them never SAY anything to me, but they add me, I add them and we can see what’s going on in each others lives.  It’s nice to know what’s up and to have the means to contact folk when you need to.  When I first joined, I was all about the constant addition and use of Applications.  Now, I just don’t care.  Anyone else feel that way?

Thoughts, and then, A DREAM

THOUGHTS

Story telling is an organic process, at least as far as I define it.  I can outline all day long, but when the actual story telling begins and words meet paper, it has to flow or there is no reason.  When I wrote the poem below, it was just cute and was never meant to have any real meaning.  Now, fifteen years later, I find meaning there I never intended.  I like to think this makes it a good poem .  and it is, at least to me:).  Judge for yourself and leave comments!

A DREAM

I dreamt of you
Last night my friend.
We sand and we spoke,
We laughed and we joked,
We passed on the hours
While Mr. Sun sank
Beneath a field of large, yellow flowers.

Stories we told
Of the good times of old,
Like the tale  of a ship
On the briny sea.

And if you remember,
A giant bee
Had stolen our soap
And we thought we would choke
From the stench emitted by we.

Or the tale of the well
(And we saw who fell
From top to bottom fastest,
Didn’t we?)

Yes, through it all
My friend,
The dream was of you,
And in the end,
Of what a great friend should be.

The Ffolk

Through the must they dance,
A forgotten race.
Trailing in their wake – songs;
Tales of whim and fancy,
Bringing a laugh to every mouth,
A smile to every face.

Though their appearance is rough
Their countenance, stern,
A joke will they tell
To cause e’en the Black Wizard,
Amidst his evil toils,
A slight grin, if not a jolly laugh.

Their origin – unknown.
Their future – uncertain.
Yet still they prance along
Down the path of their wondrous lives.
To live forever
In the memory of our hearts.

OK, so this isn’t the best of poems, but some of the phrases I still really really like. Just remember, this was written 15-16 years ago (give or take) and judge lightly:).

It is time.

The time has come.  I haven’t written for over 15 years.  I am going to start posting at least one item per week, perhaps 2-3 from my old writing stash.  I hope this inspires me to continue anew.

The first entry is called “Bondage.”  It is not about what you might think:

BONDAGE

This world, of all worlds,
Has ties
Ties that bind men hand and heart
To Lucifer’s headboard
And as he slumbers
The struggle and strife of men
Long to awaken him
Only a few bear the blade
Which might sever the cords;
But so abhorred are they of
Violence, so ashamed of the power
And glory they wield,
That their actions become but words
And so forever tied are we.

And a most engraved headboard it is
Wrought of the finest hardwood by the
Hottest fires of Hell, Polished by the
Caressing hand of Heaven;
And so both reign supreme in the design
One without the other is nothing
Existing in a moth, fanning a never ending flame
And so it is we are forever in bond.

Continuance only is brought by hope that
The Few will overcome their fear
And slice with their scythe
The most binding of bonds,
Setting our emancipation into motion
‘Fore the Waking of the Beast,
Destroyer of worlds, material master
Of men’s souls, holding us in
Bondage, forever and ever, Amen.

Salem!

New kitty, Salem, arrived home Friday afternoon.  He’s a young-un.  Saved from drowning last week by one of Lisa’s friends.  He’s walking, even running somewhat now.  Check him out:)
