So this week and last are interview weeks. I have two part time positions and one full time position in my dept that I’m interviewing folks for (bad grammar, sue me). It’s always really interesting to see how people “perform” in an interview. It really should not be called anything else, except a performance; but it’s a performance with heart and truth. Really.
Most people suck at it. They answer the questions, but they don’t make me BELIEVE they already have the job (this is the key). They obviously aren’t thinking like a good employee should (How do I help the organization? What role will I fill, not just with this position, but in five years?); they are thinking that they need a paycheck. While I fully understand this thought, you can’t stop there folks. You HAVE to move further. What are the primary concerns of the organization for the next several years and how can you help address these concerns? Do your homework, it pays.
Oh, and then deliver on that research, of course.
